Rugby - Regina RoguesThe Rogues walked away with some hardware Saturday in Saskatoon by winning the 1st division title 50-20 over the Wild Oats. The 2nd division team was not quite so lucky. Playing hard they were down 18-0 with 15 minutes left in the game before losing out 38-0 to the Badgers. The young 2nd division team
was in tough against the older and more mature Badgers, but held their own for most of the game. If it were not for a run of injuries over the past few weeks, the 2nd's may have been able pull this one off. Credit to the Badgers for fielding a true 2nd division side. All in all, the season had to be considered a great success as it was the first time in the club's history
that both the 1st and 2nd division teams had advanced to the Provincial
Finals.

In the 1st division game, the Rogues choose to play into the wind during the first half. Off the start the Rogues had some miscommunication that led to some sloppy ball, and a penalty right in front of their posts. The Oats made the kick and led 3-0. The Rogues settled down and methodically worked the ball down field putting the Oats under pressure. A penalty kick by
Wornokowski tied the score. From the kick off the Rogues continued to slowly work their way down field and were able to capitalize when White pushed his way over from in close to make it 8-3. The Rogues continued to pressure, and if not for a couple of dropped passes out wide, would have scored a couple of more tries. The pressure paid off as Wornokowski added a couple of penalties to make it 14-3. After the Rogues give away another penalty in close, the Oats were able to close the gap to 8. The Rogues responded by continuing to control the flow of play and Cornish was able to score 2 of his trademark type tries in close. The half ended with a comfortable lead 28-6.

The Rogues opened the scoring in the second half as Cowin was able to hang onto a ball (finally) and score from 10 metres out. At 35-6 the Rogues were feeling quite comfortable. The Oats took advantage of the lull and controlled the play for the next 10 minutes. They continually crashed their forwards, and with some undisciplined Rogues penalties were able to score twice to make it a 35-20 game with 20 minutes left. The Rogues regained momentum and ended any hopes of a comeback when Cowin took the ball on the blind side of a scrum, and ran it in from half to make it 40-20. Wornokowski added another penalty and White scored his second try off a set piece move. After the lineout was won, the backline ran a switch that put him through untouched. The final whistle went after the convert to make it a 50-20
final.
